About the role
A Bar Volunteer will ensure that the bar is stocked up with the products we sell. King's Theatre uses a system called Bar Tab and there are clear instructions onsite. Training will be provided.
Typical shifts look like this:
- Arrive around 6:15pm
- Once the doors open at 7pm, you will serve customers and payment can be either card or cash. We only have bottles or cans, so no pumps to worry about!
- Once the performance starts, you may need to restock in readiness for the interval. You will be able to relax, chat to the other volunteers, and in some cases watch the performance.
- During the interval you will be serving again, some customers may have ordered interval drinks, which you will have prepared.
- After the interval, you may need to restock again.
- At the end of the performance the bar stays open for 20 minutes.
- The last task of the evening is to cash up, full training will be provided for this.
- If we have a tribute band, we usually keep the bar running, so our volunteers can enjoy the music too!
The theatre is hired on a regular basis and any duties will be sent out to you. You can sign up for as many or as few as you like.
A bar shift usually starts at 6.15pm and runs until 10-10.30pm.

What we will provide to volunteers
🤝 Extra supportAbout Kings Theatre
The Kings Theatre is run solely by volunteers. We have a variety of theatrical company's/groups that hire the theatre on a regular basis, from the University of Gloucestershire, to local amateur theatre groups, to tribute bands such at Elvis, Abba and Robbie Williams.
When the theatre is in use our front of house area requires one person to run the box office, two people to sell programmes (if required) and to serve teas, coffees etc at the beginning and during the interval and finally two people to run our bar. At the end of the show we all muck in to clear up ready for the next show.
Training will be provided for all of these roles. We use Ticketsource for our ticket sales and Tabology for our bar sales, so some computer knowledge would be useful.
We have a great group of volunteers already at Kings but we it would fantastic to have some new people on board! Our volunteers age from 16 through to 78, so please come along and join us!
