Summary

The role of a Listening Ear Buddy is to welcome, connect and chat with those from the community who attend our Fairford Talking Café

Detailed description

Talking Café Listening Ear Buddy is warm, welcoming, kind and supporting in character and should be able to complete all the below tasks with ease.

Your role is an important one as you not only help in the running of the café, you also can be the first and only contact for someone who is feeling lonely or isolated, perhaps they need some help but don't know where to go, you act as the first point of contact, the person who can connect them to our wellbeing coordinator and other experts available or simply be that friendly face that they needed to see.

  • Assist in set up of café (table cloths, saucers, biscuits, spoons etc on tables)
  • Support the Host and welcome people as they arrive at the community centre
  • Support people in finding a seat at a table, encouraging them to sit with others, if appropriate introducing them to others too.
  • Take orders and serve tea/coffee or other refreshments (provided by our volunteers in the kitchen)
  • Take time to listen and get to know the person as they get comfortable at their table
  • Listen for opportunities to support them - referring them to the wellbeing coordinator for signposting support
  • Share details on how W4W can support them - referring them to our website and wellbeing coordinator
  • Assist in clear up and close of Café (collecting empty cups etc... remove table cloths)

About Working4Wellbeing

We help our rural community to reduce their loneliness and isolation, by building supportive relationships with others through our Talking Cafés, wellbeing walks, craft workshops, youth events, and digital inclusion workshops. We guide people towards the organisations and local charities which can help them, such as CAB, FoodBank, Warm and Well and Fire Prevention. We achieve this through our team of Coordinators and Volunteers.
