Summary

To assist with the smooth running of the day for our free Open Monday twice monthly sessions at Shurdington Community Centre

Detailed description

We need volunteers to assist with tea and coffee making, lunch, showing a film on our cinema system and generally chatting/helping the day to run smoothly. The gatherings are usually of about 15 people - they are very friendly, easy to drop into and mostly about company and chat. People come in to read the paper, charge their devices, play table tennis, read a book or just relax.

We started as a Warm Spaces initiative and continued, as the sessions had become popular. The sessions run on the second and last monday of the month from 11am - 4pm and are free and open to all.

About Shurdington Community Centre

Shurdington Social Centre was established by trust deed in 1964 and registered as a charity in 1975. The site of the social centre was built during WW2 to house women’s land army volunteers. It was subsequently used for POW’s and, during the fifties, as hospital rehabilitation.

It was transferred to community use in 1960 and, by the late seventies, a rebuilding fund had been established. The current buildings were completed in the 1990’s.

The Social Centre changed its name in 2019 to Shurdington Community Centre as it registered with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).

The Centre is run by a volunteer committee acting as Trustees for the CIO.

We encourage both interested individuals and representatives of user groups to join the organization and help us to run this great community facility.
