About SGSAT
SGS Academy Trust was established in December 2014 and a family of three unique schools:
SGS Berkeley Green UTC
SGS Forest High School
SGS Pegasus School
Our schools are safe spaces, in which diversity is a strength and where there are no barriers to success. Each school within the Trust offers a unique educational provision with its own Leadership Team and Local School Board. We work together under the leadership of the Trust Board and central team to support our schools to provide the best quality experience for all of our students.
Role Overview
While all Trustees contribute to the strategic oversight of the entire Trust, we are specifically looking for a Trustee with a background in UTCs, technology, engineering, or STEM-related industries to enhance the governance of SGS Berkeley Green UTC, a school with a strong focus on digital, technical, and scientific education for students aged 14–19.
Your specialist insight will support the Trust Board to:
- Strengthen STEM and employer engagement across the curriculum, helping align education with evolving industry needs.
- Promote innovation and future readiness within SGS Berkeley Green UTC by supporting strategy and curriculum design that reflects real world technical and digital trends.
- Build meaningful connections between the school and local/national STEM industries, ensuring pathways into employment, apprenticeships, and further study are well supported.
- Ensure effective oversight of the UTC’s performance, especially in specialist areas like computer science, engineering, and digital technologies.
- Advise on strategic planning for staff development, resource allocation, and employer partnerships in STEM subjects.
Essential Criteria
We are looking for candidates who are:
- Can provide strategic leadership and contribute constructively to Trust-wide decisions.
- Have a strong understanding of STEM industries and their relevance to 14–19 education.
- Are passionate about preparing young people for careers in digital, technical, or engineering sectors.
- Can engage with school leaders, staff, and partners to support innovation in teaching and learning.
Are committed to attending meetings and playing an active role on the Board and committees.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience in a senior role within a STEM-related business or organisation.
- Understanding of technical education pathways and apprenticeships
- Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities in UTC settings.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to governance.
