Outline of the Publicity role
You will be helping your local community understand what a Read Easy group does; how local people can get the reading support they need; and how volunteers can help. You do this by raising awareness e.g. putting up posters, holding publicity events, giving talks; and through using social media effectively, e.g. Facebook and our website.
How we will support you
You will have lots of support from the other members of our team with specific skills. You’ll also be able to refer to our Management Team Handbook, policies, training/induction and guidance specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser, via your Team Leader. You’ll be invited Read Easy UK’s forums and annual conference which give to network with people who organise publicity for other Read Easy groups.
What you will be doing
· Liaising with the Management Team to decide on our publicity needs.
· Creating content for our page on the Read Easy website
· Creating stories and photos for our website and Facebook about our activities and achievements
· Becoming familiar with the resources available to you on the Read Easy website
· Organising printing and distribution of posters, leaflets etc
· Identifying opportunities for publicity in the local media
· Following our ‘Brand Guidelines’ to preserve a clearly recognisable and consistent Read Easy identity
· Attending monthly Management Team meetings.
The skills you will need
· Knowledge and experience of publicity/marketing and effective use of social media to promote our work
· Good communication and people skills
· Ability to use initiative and work independently
· Willingness to abide by Read Easy policies and procedures
· Commitment to improving the lives of people who struggle with reading
· Commitment to equality and diversity, a non-judgemental attitude and respect for others so you can make everyone feel valued and included
You will need an average of 2-3 hours a week to commit to the role.
