Summary
The Rainbow Trust supports families with a seriously ill child. You can help by befriending children, doing practical tasks and / or giving emotional support.Detailed description
Our volunteers support families in 3 main ways:
- Befriending and mentoring children both ill children and their siblings. Doing activities in the home, taking them out to activities and being someone to listen to them.
- Practical support. This can be cleaning, housework, gardening, DIY or supporting the family on trips to hospitals or the shops. Anything you can do that might be useful.
- Emotional Support. All our volunteers offer emotional support to the children they befriend or often to parents or carers when they meet them while doing practical tasks.
We will give you seven hours of training and lots of one to one meetings to discuss how ready you feel. We give you everything we think you need to undertake this role and you will decide when you are ready to start.
We visit you with the families so you know each other before the visits start. Once you start you'll receive supervision and support from our experienced Family Support Volunteers.
We also pay all expenses incurred as a volunteer including petrol / transport costs.
