The Process 

1. Register your interest in the matching scheme as a refugee or as a sponsor

Refugees and sponsors must register their interest in the scheme via our registration forms.

For refugees, we collect information about the composition of their group and any special needs or preferences they might have in terms of accommodation (e.g. location preferences, details about pets, access needs).

For hosts, we ask who lives in their household and what they might be able to offer in terms of accommodation, including location and accessibility. We also ask other questions, such as whether they are willing to accommodate pets. Before being considered for matching, sponsors will also be asked to complete two online training sessions, a webinar and an e-learning course.

2. Based on the information provided by refugees and sponsors, we aim to identify at least two potential sponsors for refugees

Once they have registered, refugees and sponsors will be given logins. By logging into their account, they will be able to view and update their profile and be notified of any potential matches.

Our data-driven approach identifies potential hosts depending on the needs of the refugee group. We also take into account the availability and household composition of the sponsors, as well as stated preferences of both hosts and refugees.

We ensure that we take into account any key criteria such as hosting children, pets, smoking indoors. Please note that we are working with thousands of applications of each side. We will aim to find the best possible match but may not be able to align perfectly with your preferences.

3. Refugees decide on a suitable sponsor

We aim to give refugees a choice of at least two potential sponsors. They will be given basic details about each potential sponsor and, based on this information, we will invite the refugee to select a sponsor to speak to.

The sponsor will then be notified and given some basic details about the refugee family / group and asked to confirm that they are happy for their contact details to be shared.

If the sponsor agrees, the refugee will be given the sponsor’s contact details. We recommend a conversation is then arranged between the sponsor and refugee. We strongly recommend this takes place as a video call.

If you both wish the match to go ahead: Following this conversation, if both the sponsor and refugee decide that they would like the match to go ahead, either the refugee or sponsor will need to make a visa application.

If either of you do not wish the match to go ahead: If, following the conversation, either the refugee or the sponsor decides that the match is not suitable for some reason, refugees will get a chance, if they wish, to speak the second potential sponsor. The first potential sponsor will be released back to the sponsor pool, and will be available to be matched with other refugees.

We will hold selected sponsors for two weeks before releasing them back into the sponsor pool for matching with other refugees.

Reset’s involvement ends after you and the refugee agree that you wish to proceed with the match.
