Summary

This is a self led activity, meaning you choose when to do it. You can work the survey into your leisure time, why not get your friends and family involved too?

Detailed description

Location: the locations are across the Wessex Water operating area in Gloucestershire. The areas are mainly located in South Gloucestershire, example areas are Berkeley, Nibley Green, Tetbury and Wotton-under-Edge.

The Water Guardians Project is in partnership with Wessex Water to identify pollution incidents in waterways. We are looking for volunteers to walk the same stretch of watercourse on a regular basis. Your commitment can be as much as you choose but we would ask for a minimum of once a month.

Water Guardians plays a key part in Wessex Waters' commitment to supporting the clean-up of our watercourses. GWT's Water Guardian volunteers will be additional eyes and ears on the ground, playing an integral role in protecting the health of their local rivers. As well as monitoring pollution to improve water quality, volunteers will be encouraged to undertake additional tasks to help e.g. litter-picking, recording wildlife or organising local engagement events.

Once you sign up you will be given access to a training share point. The training is a series of short videos which totals approximately 40 minutes. The videos describe how to access and use the apps used for completing a survey. After that it is a case of getting out and walking your survey site. The survey itself takes less than 5 minutes to complete then you are free to enjoy the rest of your walk.
