Summary

Could you help support vulnerable adults when important decisions are being taken about their children?

Detailed description

Family advocates support vulnerable adults through child protection proceedings to help them understand decisions and the importance of their engaging in the activities demanded of them by the court / other agencies, to ensure more positive and fairer outcomes for both the adult and children involved.

An advocate can:

  • Accompany parents at Child Protection Conference, Reviews or Court Hearings
  • Support parents at meetings with professionals
  • Meet parents to prepare for or follow up Child Protection Conferences/Reviews/Court Hearings/other meetings with Professionals to ensure that parents understand decisions and actions

 About the role:

You may be helping people with learning disabilities, physical and sensory disabilities, mental health issues and older people, to get their views respected and their rights protected.

You will be involved in identifying the issues and informing the client about their rights and choices; and carry out research to ensure all information is available to them.

You will need to present the information in a format the client understands. You may also be involved in communicating needs and wishes to public services / bodies where appropriate, so that clients are included in and contribute to decisions affecting their lives.

What training will be provided?

As an Advocate, we want to ensure you are fully trained and feeling confident in your role. We will provide you with lots of different training opportunities.

What is the time commitment?

This will vary depending on how much time you have to give, however it is important that you are able to stick with a case once you have offered to take it on.

About CCP - Caring for Communities and People

As a charity delivering services across the South West, CCP prevents the causes, and reduces the effects, of homelessness, family breakdown and social isolation. Last year we supported 9,926 people to access:
• safe, stable accommodation to young people, children in care and vulnerable adults
• support to avoid someone losing their home
• family support to parents feeling overwhelmed
• social and friendship groups to avoid, or come out of, isolation.
• affordable food and other essentials through our Community Pantry

With a head office in Cheltenham, we currently employ 270 staff, backed up by a team of 65 volunteers, and deliver services and projects in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, South Gloucestershire, Bristol, Wiltshire, Devon and Dorset.
