An exciting opportunity to support in our Community Cafés at Gardners Lane and Oakwood Children & Family Centres. Our cafes are a community hub to encourage the wider community to come together.
You will be supporting our community cafes by serving customers efficiently by taking food and drink orders, offering high level customer service, and assisting with café preparation at the start and the end of service.
You will gain lots of practical experience in the catering industry such as customer service, serving food and drinks, stock management and be a part of a community project with opportunities to be innovative and try out new ideas.
Hours: Ideally a morning or afternoon a week; but if you’d like to do more, we’d love that!
What you will help with:
• Demonstrating the highest standards of customer welcome and care when assisting customers at the counter and delivering orders to tables
• Ensuring adequate stock levels of supplies and consumables for café area, managing orders, and stock rotation
• Service of hot and cold beverages, cakes, and other food items
• Keeping the areas tidy and clean including table clearing, removing dirties and waste
• Working within established guidelines and operating procedures
• Responsible for taking payments accurately
• Keeping up to date with special promotions and creating displays
• Ensuring compliance with all legislation - Health & Safety and food hygiene
Skills required:
• Having a friendly and engaging personality, a good communicator, able to work under pressure.
• Comfortable working with members of the public, able to initiate conversations
This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
In return we will provide you with;
· An induction package of four sessions exploring safeguarding, effective listening and communication, and values and beliefs.
· Relevant training as required and identified.
· A range of volunteering opportunities to promote further development.
· Regular support and supervisions.
· A fully dedicated Volunteer Coordinator, to support with your volunteering journey.
References are requested for all volunteers and fully enhanced DBS will be carried out, before your volunteering starts with us. All costs for the DBS will be covered by the Foundation.
