Our Family Events Volunteers help to connect people of all ages to the wildlife of Gloucestershire and to have fun discovering butterflies and moths.
Why we want you
· To enthuse people of all ages to connect with nature by assisting at family events (up to 7 per year in the summer)
· To raise awareness of Butterfly Conservation and our work
· To promote national campaigns including the Big Butterfly Count
· To encourage people to get involved with Butterfly Conservation’s work and the conservation of butterflies and moths
What you will be doing
· Talking to people of all ages about butterflies and moths and the Butterfly Emergency
· Promoting membership of, or volunteering with, Butterfly Conservation
· Encouraging participation in citizen science schemes like the Big Butterfly Count
· Assisting people with the identification of butterflies and moths
· Assisting with the set-up, dismantling and manning of Butterfly Conservation’s stand
· Engaging with young people through fun activities such as quiz trails, butterfly safaris and crafting
The skills you will need
· Knowledge and enthusiasm about the natural environment including butterflies and moths
· Enjoy engaging with a wide range of people about butterflies and moths
· Enjoy inspiring the next generation to love wildlife though fun activities for families with children
Some butterfly and moth ID skills are helpful but not essential as training can be given

- 16th May Rodborough Common
- 30th May Cheltenham Biodiversity Festival
- 13th June Woodchester Park
- 23rd July Barnwood Arboretum
- 2nd August Crickley Hill Nature Reserve
- 21st August Painswick Rococo Garden
Disclaimer
This role may be active year-round, though most events take place between May and September.
Timings of individual events vary but you can choose which ones you help with.
We ask for a minimum commitment to assist with one event per year. Events can range from 2 hours to a full day.
A DBS check is required for volunteers working regularly with children.
May involve accessing steep slopes, uneven ground, or remote sites.

Children aged 13-15 must be accompanied by an adult whilst volunteering. If you are aged 16 or 17, your parent may give written permission for you to volunteer unaccompanied.
