Summary

Every event needs some level of sound engineering, this can vary from one microphone to a full 6 piece band! You will get to choose which events to work.

Detailed description

  • You will meet the UTEA event coordinator at the hall about 30-60mins before the band/musician/act are due to arrive to start setting up (generally around 6pm)
  • Set up generally involves: putting up speakers, running cables, microphones and stands, table and mixing desk etc.
  • ‘Event Details’ emails are sent out before events confirming times and any additional details e.g. just a microphone, piano being used
  • You will then run sound check with the band/musician/act
  • You will need to be there throughout the night, possibly making small adjustments, however you will likely have plenty of opportunities to sit back and enjoy the event.
  • Clear up at the end of an event needs to be done that night as the hall is often hired out the following morning.
  • If you are interested in this role but have not done it before, you can be scheduled with an experienced volunteer and shadow them for a few events until you feel confident.
  • Prior musical knowledge isn’t essential but it can help
