Summary

The role of the Visitor Centre Volunteer is to welcome, engage and promote the Cotswold Canals to visitors.

Detailed description

The role of a Visitor Centre Volunteer will be front facing and welcoming, with the aim to promote the Cotswold Canals Trust.

The Visitor Centre is a jointly run venture between Cotswold Canals Trust and The Cotswold Lakes Trust. The centre is located at Lake 6, Cotswold Water Park and open between 10am and 3pm every weekend all year and weekdays throughout the school holidays. Individuals can commit to as many shifts a month as they wish.

Tasks will include:

·     Welcoming visitors, engaging in conversation and providing information as appropriate.

·      Encourage visitors to join as members and/or volunteers and facilitate the sign-up process.

·      Assist with sales for a small number of items and used books that are stocked in the Visitor Centre.

·      Help to keep premises clean.

We are looking for individuals who are comfortable approaching and chatting with members of the public. A familiarity with the canal route is helpful but not essential, as the primary aim of the role is to provide a friendly approach to visitors and encourage them to join the Trust. Full training will be given, and individuals will be invited to induction meetings and talks to if they wish to extend their knowledge of the charity.

This opportunity is for individuals over the age of 18.

About The Cotswold Canal Trust

The Cotswold Canals Trust is a volunteer-led charity made up of hundreds of people working together, sharing expertise and energy to save our heritage and improve our local environment for the benefit of everyone.
Since the 1970s, volunteers have undertaken restoration and maintenance of the Cotswold Canals. With work now started on Phase 1B and exciting projects planned for Phase 2, we need more volunteers than ever to help achieve our goal of preserving, maintaining and improving the Stroudwater Navigation and the Thames & Severn Canal (i.e. the Cotswold Canals).
We have so many opportunities available from scrub bashing along the canal, dredging, operating a trip boat, sorting books at one of our bookshops to designing lock gates, the list is endless.
Cotswold Canals Trust Volunteers often speak of the new friendships, fun and sense of achievement they enjoy and we look forward to welcoming new volunteers to the team.
