Summary

Join us as a Temporary Volunteer Cook at Stroud’s Community Café! Help combat loneliness while gaining cooking skills. Wednesdays, 10:15am - 12pm.

Detailed description

Welcome to our Community Café! Nestled in the heart of the neighborhood at the Salvation Army on Acre Street, our café is a joint effort between local residents with the support of the Community Development team at Stroud Town Council.

Designed as a cosy place to reduce loneliness and isolation, the community café serves as a vibrant spot for local residents to strengthen community ties through warm conversations and shared meals. We’re currently seeking a Temporary Volunteer Cook to help us keep serving our community during this busy period.

Role Description

  • Primary Responsibilities: You’ll whip up delicious egg and bacon rolls, with occasional vegetarian options, serving between 15-25 servings each session. All ingredients will be provided—your main task is to cook and serve these delicious meals.
  • Future Opportunities: Once our regular cooking team is back, you can choose from several roles like front of house or arts and crafts activities coordinator, or even create a unique role that sparks your interest!

Skills We're Looking For

  • Essential Skills: Cooking skills sufficient to prepare simple, tasty bacon and egg rolls.
  • Certifications: Food Hygiene certification (we provide training if needed).
  • Character: We are seeking volunteers who are compassionate and non-judgmental, capable of serving a diverse range of guests with kindness and respect.

Time Commitment

  • Schedule: Every Wednesday from 10:15am to 12:00pm; most cooking is wrapped up by 11:45am.
  • Duration: A minimum commitment of one month is appreciated.
  • Minimum Volunteer Commitment: While we ideally look for a weekly commitment, we welcome those who can join us at least once a month.

Volunteer Benefits

  • Gain practical cooking experience and a Food Hygiene certification.
  • Contribute to reducing loneliness and enhancing community connections.
  • Tailor your volunteer experience post-cooking period to match your skills and passions.

Location

The volunteering takes place at the Salvation Army, Acre Street, Stroud.

Support and Training

We provide comprehensive training, including Food Hygiene, and continuous support as you explore new roles.

Application Process

  • To Apply: Express your interest through our listing on Go Volunteer Gloucestershire.
  • Contact: For questions, please contact us through the listing. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.
  • Applications: Reviewed on an ongoing basis; apply soon to join our community effort!

Additional Opportunities

Beyond the kitchen, your ideas and energy can help shape the café’s future. We encourage you to bring your creativity to develop new ways to engage and support the community.

Join us at Chapel Street Community Café, where your enthusiasm and dedication can make a real difference, helping us to continue creating a space where everyone feels at home.
