Summary

We are looking for new members to our volunteer trustee committee. The Committee meets once a month at Shurdington Community Centre, which opens 7 days per week

Detailed description

We are looking for people to become trustees of Shurdington Community Centre. The Centre is a lively, successful community resource run by a small committee of volunteer trustees. As the Centre progresses and expands, we are looking for more members to get involved.

The Centre hosts a huge range of activities and community events. We are currently registered under the Warm Spaces initiative, have our own cinema setting and - in 2024 - we are embarking on a building project to extend one of the halls and improve facilities. Perhaps you have skills that would inform these projects?

The Centre is a great community resource and needs more people to make the decisions in Committee that ensure its success.

We welcome all skillsets and know that volunteering is valuable for all.

About Shurdington Community Centre

Shurdington Social Centre was established by trust deed in 1964 and registered as a charity in 1975. The site of the social centre was built during WW2 to house women’s land army volunteers. It was subsequently used for POW’s and, during the fifties, as hospital rehabilitation.

It was transferred to community use in 1960 and, by the late seventies, a rebuilding fund had been established. The current buildings were completed in the 1990’s.

The Social Centre changed its name in 2019 to Shurdington Community Centre as it registered with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).

The Centre is run by a volunteer committee acting as Trustees for the CIO.

We encourage both interested individuals and representatives of user groups to join the organization and help us to run this great community facility.
