Summary
We're looking for volunteers to help out at our Read Together after-school sessions every Tuesday at the Bartongate Children and Family Centre.
Detailed description
We believe that everyone can help a child learn to read. By volunteering, you’ll play an important part in helping local children become confident, enthusiastic readers.
As a volunteer reader, you’ll listen to children read at a dedicated after-school session from 3.15pm – 4.30pm at a local Family Hub. Each session involves craft activities, chatting, reading and encouraging the child, helping them to develop vital communication skills, confidence and a love of books.
We ask that volunteers are fluent in English, have good communication skills and are reliable, punctual and consistent.
No teaching experience is necessary. Read With Me will provide comprehensive training, resources, an enhanced DBS check and ongoing support.
Key Tasks:
· Commit to attend to as many after-school sessions as you would like at a local Family Hub convenient for you (3.15pm – 4.30pm).
· Support children individually at their own pace through reading, discussion and encouragement.
· Help children develop confidence and enjoyment in reading.
· Supporting children with arts / crafts activities.
· Demonstrate enthusiasm, empathy and patience.
· Ensure each child leaves the session with a sense of achievement.
· Follow safeguarding procedures and report any concerns promptly. (Further information can be found in our Safeguarding Policy.)

About Read With Me
Read With Me is a registered charity (no. 1213580). We provide one-to-one support in primary and secondary schools across Gloucestershire, to help every child learn to read well and fully partake in education.
Our volunteers hear children read once or twice a week for 10/15 minutes. This creates discussion and helps to improve social and communication skills and builds the children's confidence.
We provide training and support for all our volunteers and equip you with all of the resources needed, including the much-wanted reward stickers for the children.
