Summary

We are looking for volunteers to hear students in KS3 read at Severn Vale School.

Detailed description

Read With Me is a registered charity and we provide one-to-one support in primary and secondary schools across Gloucestershire, to help every child learn to read well and fully partake in education.

We ask our volunteer readers to commit to one or two sessions a week during school hours for between 1 and 3 hours per session. It’s an opportunity for dedicated one-to-one time and for the child to develop conversation, social skills and confidence. We hear children in all age groups from Reception to Year 6 and we work with schools across Gloucestershire. We also support Year 7 and 8 children in some secondary schools in the county.

We provide full training and support, with regular social occasions.

Read what just two of our volunteers said recently -

‘It’s always so rewarding to see children’s reading skills improve over the weeks, knowing that I’ve played a small part in that’. Anne Parsons

“Working with Read With Me is a complete joy. Getting to know the children, seeing the difference our sessions make to their self-esteem (and even their reading skills) after only a few weeks, discovering how much we volunteers are appreciated by the teachers — all this makes my regular Thursday afternoon visit an absorbing and rewarding experience.” Nicholas Harris

About Read With Me

Read With Me is a registered charity (no. 1213580). We provide one-to-one support in primary and secondary schools across Gloucestershire, to help every child learn to read well and fully partake in education.
Our volunteers hear children read once or twice a week for 10/15 minutes. This creates discussion and helps to improve social and communication skills and builds the children's confidence.
We provide training and support for all our volunteers and equip you with all of the resources needed, including the much-wanted reward stickers for the children.
