PROJECT MANAGER - GLOUCESTERSHIRE CONTRIBUTION TO AVIATION

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES DOCUMENT

ROLE:

Jet Age Museum engages with people in Gloucestershire and beyond to foster and inspire interest in aviation history, especially that of the County, from the earliest days of flight, through the birth of the Jet Age to the modern aerospace industry of today.

We are a family friendly community museum run exclusively by volunteers, registered as a charity and a company known formally as the Gloucestershire Aviation Collection. We do not charge for admission but seek donations to meet our running costs and raise funds for future improvements.

The Gloucestershire contribution to aviation is to be presented by the Museum in an entirely new Display, covering manufacturing, people, airfields and flying; and relating this to the wider development of aviation in the UK and worldwide.

The role of Project Manager – Gloucestershire Contribution to Aviation within the Collection and Display (C&D) Team is to:

a)      Take responsibility for and deliver the Project for this new Display.

b)     Ensure that Project adheres to the standards set out by the museum’s Arts Council England accreditation guidance and using current best practices.

c)      Direct allocated Volunteers to ensure fulfilment of the Project.

d)     Interfaces with external partners who are supporting the Project.

e)     Liaise with the Collections Trustee and the C&D Manager as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Programme and Project Management

 

·        Preparation of the Project Management Plan, including the Display concept, its implementation and the visitor benefits to be secured.

·        Overall Management of the Project to meet GAC Charity Objects and the Project Management Plan as approved by the Board.

·        Working with the C&D Manager to ensure appropriate allocation of Volunteers.

·        Managing allocated budget within approved delegation.

·        Interfacing with external organisation activities to complete plan (including external work; display material procurement; data accession).

·        Directing volunteers to accomplish work in line with the Project Management Plan.

·        Identifying to the C&D Manager HASAW risks and issues.

·        Reporting to the C&D Manager & Collections Trustee progress to plan.

·        Raising with the C&D Manager & Collections Trustee risks to Project completion.

·        Preparing and presenting Project reviews.

·        Supporting JAM External Affairs in publicising work undertaken.


2.      Specific Project

·        Creating an engaging overall Display to summarise all aspects of Gloucester contribution to aviation from inception up to the current day, based on a calendar timeline.

·        Summarising the history such that exhibits in the Main Hall can be understood in this context.

·        Installing the Display in Phase 2B in such a way that the Main Hall end display can be moved to allow full use as a Community Learning Centre.

·        Using as much existing display material from the ‘time line’ as possible.

·        Freeing-up space in Main Hall for additional/revised display items/layout.

·        Directing visitors to new display as a first port of call.

·        Completing the Project by end 2028.

SKILLS/INTERESTS NEEDED:

The holder of this role should:

Essential

·        Be able to manage the full scope of this Project.

·        Have skills to undertake specific tasks within the Project as identified in the Project Management Plan.

·        Be able to manage allocated Volunteers to achieve the required Project outcome.

·        Have the ability to manage finances within the delegated budget.

 TRAINING OFFERED:

 Training will be provided to understand GAC Charity objectives and the Policies applicable to C&D.

TIME COMMITMENT SUGGESTED:

Required time commitment is a 5 - 10 hours per week split on site and remote.

Location: Jet Age Museum is at Meteor Business Park, off Cheltenham Road East (the B4063), on the north side of Gloucestershire Airport. Look for the traffic lights between the large white Safran building and the Ontic building. Turn off the main road into Meteor Business Park at the lights and the Museum’s blue gates will be on your right. The address is: Meteor Business Park, Cheltenham Road East, Gloucester GL2 9QL If using the What Three Words app, the square just in front of the main Jet Age Museum gates is shift.secretly.influence There is no pedestrian or vehicle access to the Museum from the Airport. If using a Satellite Navigation System and postcode, please note that this will take you to the eastern entrance of Meteor Business Park from where you will need to follow either the main road or the internal Business Park road westbound until you arrive at Jet Age Museum at the western end of the Business Park.

Jet Age Museum is staffed only by volunteers, some of whom flew in aircraft we have on display. Come and visit, ask questions and learn about the history of aviation in Gloucestershire and beyond. We aim to preserve the past and inspire the future.
