Summary

We are looking for a volunteer who will support our weekly woodland wellbeing group by preparing and cooking lunch.

Detailed description

We have recently had funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to continue with our weekly Woodland Wellbeing group for adults (until March 2024). The group takes place at our beautiful woodland site at Hailey Wood, just off the main road between Cirencester and Stroud, every Thursday during term time, between 10 am and 2 pm. We have up to 12 participants plus two leaders and offer a variety of activities, e.g. bushcraft, woodland walks, mindful nature connection and cooking.

We are looking for a volunteer who can prepare and cook a simple, healthy lunch outdoors on a campfire. The menu will be agreed upon with our participants; it will be vegetarian or vegan and has to take into account different food intolerances and allergies. We can provide recipes (unless you want to use your own) and will shop for the ingredients, then it is over to you to lead on the preparation and cooking. You will also wash and tidy up after lunch. Participants will help with the various tasks, so it won't just be on you!

Our facilities are basic and wholly outdoors, so you will need to be comfortable spending several hours outside in any weather. Public transport is sparse so ideally you have your own transport to get to the site; lifts can potentially be organised from Stroud or Cirencester. We pay mileage of £0.45 per mile. If needed, we also provide an induction on how to light a fire and cook over it.

Ideally, you will have a Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate; if not, we will pay for you to do this (online course). You might also need a DBS certificate for working with vulnerable adults.

You need to be a proactive people-person and have a can-do attitude. You will be a valued part of the team and as such take part in the opening and closing circles; if there is any spare time during the sessions, you can join in activities or enjoy the woodland environment in other ways.
