Detailed description

Summary of the Role:

Inclusion Gloucestershire is a vibrant, successful Disabled People’s Organisation and registered charity. We are looking for people to join our board of trustees to help to lead the charity’s direction and play a key role in strategic decisions. Trustees need to attend board meetings every other month and be involved in communication with the board and CEO throughout the year.

Job Purpose

To work with the other trustees providing valuable insight regarding the charity’s key decisions to ensure the charity:

  • Does great work for people who face disabling barriers
  • Is well governed (run) in line with its governing document and the law
  • Manages resources (like money and people) responsibly
  • Is meeting the requirements of the law with its accounting and reporting

As a Disabled People’s Organisation, we are run by disabled people for disabled people. At least 75% of the Board must have lived experience so we especially welcome interest from disabled people, and other people who may be under represented at a Board level.

About Inclusion Gloucestershire

Inclusion Gloucestershire is a disabled people’s organisation that exists to facilitate inclusion for people who face disabling barriers, every day and in every way. We recognise, that no two people will be affected by disabling barriers in the same way.

Our Vision is to help people achieve an inclusive society that values, respects and includes disabled people everyday and in every way.

Our Model:
We are user-led and our model places ‘experts by experience’ at the centre of what we do.
They are people who have experience of living with a disability or mental ill health and who know what works for them and what doesn’t.
Every project we work on involves our experts by experience, who are fully supported in what they do.
Being user-led means that the majority of our Board, which makes the important decisions about how we are run, have lived experience of disability. The majority of our staff team are also disabled, so have valuable insight into life with a disability.
