Oncology Carers Stand Volunteer

Location: Oncology Department

Organisation: Gloucestershire Carers Hub

Supporting Carers through one of life’s toughest journeys

We are looking for compassionate and approachable volunteers to support our Oncology Carers Stand. This role is dedicated to helping Carers who are supporting someone undergoing cancer treatment, ensuring they are aware of the help available and feel listened to, understood, and supported.

What you’ll be doing

As an Oncology Carers Stand Volunteer, you will:

  • Identify Carers who may be supporting a loved one through cancer treatment
  • Provide tailored signposting to Gloucestershire Carers Hub services, including emotional support, information, training, wellbeing activities, etc.
  • Offer a calm and welcoming presence for Carers who may be anxious, overwhelmed, or exhausted.
  • Liaise with Carers, oncology staff, and other healthcare professionals in a respectful and collaborative way
  • Raise awareness of Carers Hub services within the Oncology Department
  • Encourage referrals and ensure Carers know how to register for ongoing support

What we’re looking for

You don’t need any clinical experience—just empathy and kindness:

  • Warm, patient, and comfortable engaging with people during emotional times
  • Able to listen without judgement
  • Confident in a clinical environment
  • Reliable, professional, and able to maintain confidentiality
  • Good communication and people skills
