Summary

Detailed description

Could you help your community prepare for, respond to, and recover from flooding events? GRCC have partnered with Tewkesbury Borough Council to run their volunteer Flood Warden programme. Whether you are a resident who is directly impacted by flooding events, are looking to gain volunteer experience in flood risk management and community engagement, or are simply passionate about helping you local community, you can volunteer with us!

What is a Flood Warden? Flood Wardens act as the 'eyes and ears' of their community and are a vital link between residents and the local authorities, emergency services, and other organisations who respond during a flood events.

What could I do in the role? You can tailor the role to best suit you and your community - there's something for everyone! Some existing Flood Wardens:

  • share information via social media or community noticeboards to encourage people to be prepared and to promote self-help to at-risk communities
  • monitor river levels during daily dog walks, take pictures and record changes
  • report blockages and flooding to relevant authorities

What do I have to commit to? We hold four Flood Warden meetings a year and you would need to attend at least one. This gives you a chance to meet other volunteers, share experiences and best practice, and get advice and support from lots of external partners (from council representatives, to the Environment Agency and Severn Trent). Other than that, we ask that you volunteer whatever time you are able to.

Over 18s only. Full training and support provided. When undertaking actions in line with guidance and training, volunteers are covered by Tewkesbury Borough Council's public liability insurance.
