We are looking for compassionate and committed volunteers to join our Advice Triage team. As a Triage Volunteer, you will be the first point of contact.

This role is essential to the smooth running of our service. With increasing demand, our advisors rely on triage volunteers to help ensure no one is missed and that our support is delivered where it is most needed.

Main Responsibilities

As a Triage Volunteer, you will work alongside staff and other volunteers to:

  • Welcome clients to the GARAS drop-in service and discuss their needs

  • Respond to initial enquiries in person, by phone, and via email

  • Explain the services GARAS offers and how to access them

  • Record new referrals on our case management system

  • Contact clients to book appointments and follow up on referrals

  • Support administrative tasks as needed

As you gain experience, you may also:

  • Provide basic advice or information

  • Draft support letters

  • Assist with more complex triage cases

What You’ll Gain

By volunteering with GARAS, you will:

  • Make a meaningful impact on the lives of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in Gloucestershire

  • Join a diverse and experienced team within a respected local charity

  • Develop administrative and communication skills in a supportive environment

  • Gain insight into the asylum and immigration system and the challenges our clients face

  • Receive regular support and supervision

  • Have access to training and development opportunities

  • Be reimbursed for agreed out-of-pocket expenses

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome volunteers who are:

  • Passionate about social justice and supporting migrants, refugees and asylum seekers

  • Friendly, approachable, and able to set professional boundaries

  • Excellent communicators, both written and verbal

  • Proactive, reliable, and able to use initiative

  • Organised and detail-oriented

  • Respectful of confidentiality and sensitive situations

  • Comfortable using digital tools and systems

  • Experienced working in multicultural or diverse environments (desirable but not essential)

Additional Information

Time Commitment: We ask for a regular commitment of at least one day per week (Monday, Wednesday, or Friday).

Training: Full training will be provided, including safeguarding, confidentiality, and use of our systems.

Supervision: You will receive regular support from your supervisor to help you grow in your role.
