Summary
Volunteer treasurer for CIO with planned £40k income and PAYE payroll, to oversee simple systems, budgets and compliance in a small, growing dementia charity.
Detailed description
Who we are
A small but innovative and growing charity promoting social inclusion for people with dementia, committed to positive psychology and asset‑based community development principles.
What we do
We run a weekly community lunch in Stroud and work with two of the Stroud “NoSH” community hubs. We also host the newly established Stroud Dementia Action Alliance, helping to shape a more dementia‑inclusive town where people with dementia can participate in activities they enjoy.
The role
The treasurer will maintain simple spreadsheet‑based accounts, monitor income and expenditure, and prepare clear financial reports for trustee meetings so that trustees can make confident, timely decisions. Working closely with the chair of trustees, you will help set and review budgets, support cash‑flow planning and ensure our reserves policy of three to six months’ expenditure is implemented in practice, directly strengthening the sustainability of our work with people affected by dementia. You will also lead on year‑end accounts for independent examination and help ensure compliance with Charity Commission requirements for a CIO. Banking is via Lloyds with online access.
Support
The treasurer will be fully supported by the chair of trustees or another trustee, including cover during absence and a thorough induction into our finances and programmes.
Who this role would suit
Someone wishing to develop or extend experience as a charity treasurer or in financial governance, while seeing a clear link between their skills and better outcomes for people with dementia. Early‑career finance professionals, retired or semi‑retired people, or others with relevant skills (e.g. bookkeeping, accountancy, business management) wanting to contribute Who we are
