An co-ordinator role within a team of experienced ‘Secretaries’, each running a branch of music, eg piano, vocal, choirs etc. Organising skills and light admin.

Detailed description

The Festival of Performing Arts was formed in 1926, run entirely by volunteers ever since. There are three arts sections; Dance, Drama, Music each with a head Secretary and small management team. There is an overall Executive team.

You can see a festival description and operations on our website.

Music Secretary duties include co-ordinating the music team, attending around six or seven Exec meetings a year, attending the festival itself for parts of Music days (around seven days across a fortnight in early or mid-May), and light admin in Autumn and Spring.

Personal attributes are ideally: a cheerful nature and good sense of humour, a team player, friendly and co-operative, engendering the spirit of the festival to provide young and old with an opportunity to celebrate the arts through the experience of giving a public performance. No Music skills are needed or necessary! These are provided by colleagues and during the festival by professional adjudicators. General email and simple spreadsheet use are needed.

The reward: Knowing you are helping old and especially young people to gain confidence in their art and public performance. Enjoying the company of a friendly team of like-minded volunteers.
