Summary

Booking in repairs for our monthly repair cafe, and liaising with repairers to allocate tasks correctly. Maintaining records, and collecting donations.

Detailed description

This opportunity could be one of two roles: Reception or Triage.

Both tasks require volunteers to be welcoming and able to put visitors at ease. These volunteers must be robust enough to be firm when necessary, to ensure all visitors are treated fairly and that as many visitors as possible get a chance for their item to be looked at.

These volunteers should be curious about both people & items for repair. Must be organised, as these roles are very hectic and will be seeing every person who comes into the Repair Cafe.

The Triage role requires a certain amount of mobility, as the person will be required to show visitors through to the repairs hall. They may also have to assist the visitor with their repair item.

The Reception role is suited to both disabled, and non-disabled persons.

1 Reception Desk:

Welcome customers into the Repair Cafe and find out what they have brought in to be looked at, and what is wrong with it.

Complete paperwork to log the repair and get the customer to complete, and sign, a disclaimer form. Explain the disclaimer rules to customers who need assistance with reading or comprehension.

Allocate colour-coded numbers to the item to make sure that the repair team know which customer is next in line to be seen.

Liaise with triage to get the customer shown through from reception to the repairs hall.

Take donations from customers for their repair, and tally up those donations at the end of each session (including the money taken by the refreshments team).

2 Triage:

Take customers from reception through to the repair hall, along with the customer's colour-coded number and the disclaimer paperwork.

Ensure that the customer knows where to buy refreshments, and find the customer a place to sit whilst they have their refreshments and wait for the repair team to see them.

Liaise with the repair team to let them know which visitor is next, ensuring that the repair goes to the most appropriate repairer.

Be the liaison between the repairer and reception to enable reception to let customer know how much of a wait they might have.

Liaise with reception to make a joint decision on when full capacity has been reached.

Both of these roles allow volunteers to enhance their customer service skills, and prove their organisational abilities.
