Summary
Would you like to transform an older person's life by helping them to engage safely with the online world?Detailed description
The Digital Inclusion project aims to motivate and inspire older people to get online, support them to engage safely and securely in the digital world.
Our volunteers experience a shared sense of achievement supporting an older person. Access to the digital world can be transformative in the life of an older person, allowing them to maintain independence, retain contact with relatives and friends, and develop or renew old interests and hobbies. Community Volunteers provide support to clients in community spaces.
You will need to feel confident using mobile phones, tablets and accessing information, have good communication skills, a person-centred approach and the ability to support an older person with patience and understanding. In depth IT knowledge is not necessary.
We will be running drop in IT sessions at Coleford, Lydney, Mitcheldean, Newent and Cinderford. These sessions will be either Monday or Wednesday, for a couple of hours starting between 10 and 11 a.m.
What we will provide to volunteers
💸 Reimbursement of costsAbout Age UK Gloucestershire
Too often ageing is portrayed negatively. We work to make sure people feel positive about growing older, to dispel myths and challenge ageism.
We champion age-friendly communities to make sure all older people have access to the services, activities and support they need to stay healthy and active.
We support communities to provide fun and meaningful social opportunities for older people to encourage strong social connections, reduce isolation and offer a sense of purpose.
We are the safe place for people to contact if they don’t know where else to turn. We provide high-quality information, guidance and advice to help older people make the best decisions about their social and healthcare options, and support them to access the services and claim the benefits they need to live well for longer.
