About Winchcombe Green Town
Winchcombe Green Town launched at a public meeting in November 2021. The aim was to bring people together to preserve our environment from human damage as much as possible.
Now we are a registered charity, governed by 8 committed volunteer trustees with a wider group of supportive volunteers. Absolutely everyone has a voice and all contributions are very much welcomed. Amongst us we have a diverse and multifaceted array of skills, a sense of purpose as well as a much-needed sense of humour. We are a friendly bunch.
What we have been doing since our inaugural meeting is;
- Raising awareness and encouraging action = public talks (Jonathan Porritt, Adam Henson and more), film shows, newsletters and social media, the town council monthly meetings, stands at local events
- Nature First = yearly green garden trail, biodiversity talks, children's holiday activities, tree planting, secondary school eco garden, promotion of rain gardens and water butts
- River Isbourne watering testing = regular testing of the water quality of this local river which flows into the Avon, public talk and further communications about our results so far - working with Safer Avon and Winchcombe Town Council
- WasteNot = reduce, reuse, recycle, twice a year Pop up Earth Friendly Fashion preloved clothes sale, bi weekly toy library, supporting local events to recycle used items, litter picks
- Homes and Energy = small dedicated volunteer advice team supporting locals to convert to green energy, talks from local battery and heat pumps producers, energy saving suggestions
