Summary
Unearth Gloucestershire's suffragette history! Research militants like Violet Doudney (Cheltenham) & Rose Yates (Stroud). Help preserve their brilliant fight.Detailed description
This crucial heritage initiative seeks to illuminate local women's contributions. Specifically, we meticulously research the suffrage movement across Gloucestershire. Volunteers will actively unearth untold stories and forgotten actions. Furthermore, this ambitious research directly challenges existing gaps in regional social history.
Ultimately, your work preserves a vital legacy for future generations. Our project centers on individuals of great fortitude. They fought brilliantly for the right to vote. For instance, you will investigate militants like Violet Doudney (Cheltenham). Moreover, you will study the organizational force of Rose Lamartine Yates (Stroud). Their uncompromising spirit drives our search.
The Role: A Call to Intellectual Activism
We seek highly motivated volunteers passionate about local history and social justice. Therefore, you must possess exceptional research and analytical skills.
Consequently, you will drive the successful discovery and collation of primary evidence. Crucially, this is not mere clerical work; it demands intellectual curiosity and tenacious investigation.
Core Responsibilities and Active Tasks:
- Pioneering Archival Research: First, actively search digital and physical records. This includes census data, local newspapers, and organizational archives. Then, identify individuals and groups involved in the local suffrage campaigns.
- Data Synthesis and Management: Next, rigorously collate and categorize all historical data and personal narratives. You must maintain our robust digital archive structure.
- Narrative Construction: Subsequently, draft succinct, accurate summaries of all major findings. Prepare compelling content for project reports and public exhibition materials.
- Locational Mapping and Verification: Furthermore, assist the Project Lead in verifying historical sites. This includes former meeting halls, residences, or places of protest.
- Transcription and Cataloguing: Finally, transcribe handwritten documents and catalogue physical artifacts when required. This preserves the material for long-term study.
