Summary

Trustees are volunteers who use their skills, knowledge and experience to help the board reach sound decisions.

Detailed description

About The Opportunity

The Door is governed by a board of trustees, who ensure that we’re continuing to achieve our objectives, and take ultimate responsibility for our strategic direction, legal compliance and financial stability. They monitor our progress towards agreed targets, and ensure that we’re run both efficiently and ethically, with appropriate policies in place. They also take responsibility for the recruitment, support and supervision of senior staff.

Trustees are volunteers who use their skills, knowledge and experience to help the board reach sound decisions. This may include scrutinising circulated papers, leading discussions focussing on key issues and providing advice and guidance on issues in which they have special expertise.

What we are looking for

To become a trustee of The Door, you must be at least 18, committed to our vision and objectives, and able to subscribe to our statement of beliefs. You will have good, independent judgement, an ability to think creatively and a willingness to speak your mind. You will work effectively as a member of a team, and be willing to use your personal networks and influence to support the fundraising efforts of The Door. You will need to understand and accept the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship, and be able to commit to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Please download the recruitment pack from The Door's website for further details

Practical Bits

You’d need to be available for management meetings 8 times a year, which are currently held on weekday evenings, but beyond this the time commitment is very flexible. There are also plenty of opportunities for you to get involved in other voluntary activities at The Door such as mentoring a young person or helping us with fundraising and publicity events.

About The Door Youth Project

The Door's mission is to bring hope into the lives of young people and their families, through unlocking potential and opening opportunity so their past does not define their future. Motivated by the Christian values of hope, forgiveness and prayer The Door delivers its services at the heart of local communities, seeking to engage stakeholders from the bottom up. We have in-depth knowledge of the local area and its people, we tackle the root causes leading to enduring results and are prepared to deal with complex issues that other agencies shy away from. The Door travels with people for the long term – walking alongside them, carrying the burden and never giving up.
