Summary

We operate 4 trip boats along the Stroudwater Canal, Gloucester & Sharpness and Thames & Severn Canal and are looking for volunteers to join as crew members.

Detailed description

We offer a mixture of public and private boat trips from Ebley, Saul Junction and Lechlade and are looking for new volunteers to join as trip boat operators.

We have 4 trip boats in operation consisting of 2 narrowboats, 1 river boat and our new fully accessible electric trip boat. All boats carry up to a maximum of 12 passengers with qualified crew of 2-3.

Depending on the location, private boat charters run seasonally or throughout the year for anytime between 1 hour to all day.

Public trips take place every weekend between May and September from Ebley.

This role is the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill or enjoy boat cruising without owning your own boat!

As well as operating the trip boat, you will be an ambassador for the charity raising awareness of the great work achieved and restoration still required.

Our crews are qualified to The Royal Yachting Association Inland Waterways Helmsman’s Certificate together with The Inland Waterways Association Certificate of Boat Management. We provide full training obtaining these qualifications.

An online roster system is in place for all boat bookings so once qualified, login and sign up for the times that suit you.

Over 18's only and sadly no travel expenses are reimbursed.

About The Cotswold Canal Trust

The Cotswold Canals Trust is a volunteer-led charity made up of hundreds of people working together, sharing expertise and energy to save our heritage and improve our local environment for the benefit of everyone.
Since the 1970s, volunteers have undertaken restoration and maintenance of the Cotswold Canals. With work now started on Phase 1B and exciting projects planned for Phase 2, we need more volunteers than ever to help achieve our goal of preserving, maintaining and improving the Stroudwater Navigation and the Thames & Severn Canal (i.e. the Cotswold Canals).
We have so many opportunities available from scrub bashing along the canal, dredging, operating a trip boat, sorting books at one of our bookshops to designing lock gates, the list is endless.
Cotswold Canals Trust Volunteers often speak of the new friendships, fun and sense of achievement they enjoy and we look forward to welcoming new volunteers to the team.
