What is The Chamwell Centre?
The Chamwell Centre is a state-of-the-art centre adjacent to The Milestone School, in Longlevens, Gloucester. Our aim is to provide a visionary and unique centre to enable children, young people and adults with disabilities across Gloucestershire the opportunity to access play, exercise, therapy and friendship.
What will I be doing?
As a Chamwell Centre Volunteer Receptionist you will provide a warm and friendly welcome to our Centre’s visitors. After school hours i.e. from 3:15pm onwards the Chamwell Centre opens to the community.
We run hydrotherapy and physiotherapy sessions, swimming lessons for children with additional needs, after school clubs – and much more. We also hire out the Centre’s facilities to other service providers who bring their clients into the Chamwell Centre to receive therapy, and our Levinge Suite to groups for meetings. The Receptionist will be required to welcome these groups and visitors, direct them accordingly and take payments for their visit, as directed.
The general duties will include:
- Answering the Centre reception telephone to respond to queries, take bookings for our facilities and activities, resolving queries where appropriate, transferring calls to the Charity Office.
- Meeting and greeting visitors, directing and possibly escorting them to relevant areas with the Centre.
- Receiving deliveries and ‘pick-ups’.
- Engage with visitors, giving them information about the Centre and answer queries.
- In the event of fire/panic alarms being activated, alert duty manager/Site Team in a timely manner in order for assistance to be given and the alarm responded to.
- Provide visitors with up-to-date information regarding membership, events and booking procedures.
- Assisting the Charity Office team with clerical tasks as required.
- Taking card payments via our till system.

- Experience using Microsoft Office 365.

When am I needed?
On a rota basis initially between the hours of 3.15pm – 7.30pm weekdays.
There are no fixed dates to volunteer but you would be working as part of a wider team of volunteers on a rota basis.
You can dedicate as much time as you want – a few hours or days a week: The time commitment depends on what time you have available, and what times we have available.
A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is required before commencing work in the Chamwell Centre. We will help you with your DBS requirements and will guide you through the whole process.
You will receive The Chamwell Centre bespoke volunteer training relevant to this role. This includes general induction and Safeguarding training.
You will be supported throughout your journey and there will always be someone who will be available to assist you in your role.

We take our responsibility of ensuring the safeguarding of all our visitors to the centre very seriously, therefore all staff, volunteers and work experience students will be required to complete an on-line safeguarding course, together with applying for a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) certificate. Our staff will be happy to assist you with applying for these.
