Summary
SVCC is looking for someone with financial management experience to join our board as an honorary Finance Director.
Detailed description
SVCC is seeking a Finance Director with appropriate financial experience who can confidently support the charity’s work. The role involves attending Board meetings, providing clear financial reports, and overseeing budgets and financial planning.
This crucial role helps ensure resources are managed responsibly, enabling SVCC to meet its objectives and legal obligations.
As Finance Director you will undertake:
- Accounting - Ensure proper books and records are kept relating to sums received/expended, sales/purchases and assets/liabilities.
- Financial Regulations - Ensure compliance with Company and Charity law and Regulations.
- Payments and Banking - Ensure arrangements deposits, transfers, payments of invoices/expenses and advise of investment of any surplus funds.
- Supervise the charities payroll.
- Financial Control - Draft annual budget, monitor results against budgets/forecasts and report to Trustees on the Trusts financial performance. Ensuring that the charity has robust and effective financial controls in place.
- Liaise with auditors for the annual audit and report to present accounts at AGM to members.

About Stroud Valleys Canal Company
Stroud Valleys Canal Company (SVCC) are the registered charity who own or lease the Cotswold Canal from Saul Junction to Brimscombe Port.
SVCC is volunteer led and has overall responsibility for managing and maintaining the canal once it has been restored.
With Phase 1A between Stonehouse and Thrupp now navigable, there is lots of maintenance to be carried out on the canal and towpath to sustain the wonderful asset we have in our community. SVCC works closely with volunteers from Cotswold Canals Trust and Stroud District Council.
There is still more to come, SVCC is a partner of the Cotswold Canals Connected Project Phase 1B setup to link the Stroudwater Navigation to the Gloucester Sharpness Canal linking the Cotswold Canals to the national waterways once again.
