Monthly Soundabout Choir sessions at National Star. Volunteers help with welcoming choir members, the music making session and refreshments.
Choir dates for the rest of 2026:
10th October - At National Star
7th November - At National Star
5th December - At Wendover Woods
This is a great way to experience and to help enable an inclusive community music session.
Two music practitioners run the sessions, with volunteers assisting.
The choir welcomes all voices and actively tries to remove barriers to participation for Learning Disabled people with complex support needs. Choir members contribute to the sessions in a variety of ways, including:
- Singing or vocalisations
- Making sounds with an instrument or sound maker
- Using technology e.g. an iPad or EyeGaze
- Movement and dance
- Signing
The volunteers help with:
- Room set-up.
- Welcoming and registering choir members.
- Serving refreshments.
- Supporting choir members to make their own sound contributions.
- Capturing photos and videos (on Soundabout devices only)
- Capturing and sharing feedback on the session.

Since registering as a charity in 1997, Soundabout’s approach has provided opportunities for Learning Disabled people with complex support needs to enjoy making music with their families, peers, and communities throughout the country.
We offer a wide range of music making and training opportunities, online and in-person around the country, that enhance wellbeing, communication, community, self-expression, and enjoyment.
We focus on what individuals can do and follow their lead. Last year, we ran 962 music making sessions alongside 1,576 Learning Disabled people.
Our Soundabout Choirs are musical communities without barriers for people all ages and all abilities, with a focus on giving a voice to Learning Disabled people with complex support needs.
