Summary

Soundabout Gloucester Choir sessions at National Star. Meeting monthly, on a Saturday, volunteers will help with welcoming choir members and refreshments.

Detailed description

This is a great way to experience and to help enable an inclusive community music session.

Two music practitioners will run the session. Volunteers are needed to make sure everyone finds the venue within the college, is registered and has a good time.

Our choir sessions have a structure, with a welcome and goodbye song and the exploration of songs in-between. However, they are person centred, meaning our practitioners look and listen for how our participants want to be involved. Making every session unique and a joy to be part of. Volunteers can assist by bringing a willingness to participate and to help others to participate, i.e by passing round instruments or holding a drum or microphone for someone to use.

About Soundabout

Music is a universal language and a tool of expression for those who communicate using means other than words. We believe that everyone should be able to access and experience music.

Since registering as a charity in 1997, Soundabout’s approach has provided opportunities for Learning Disabled people with complex support needs to enjoy making music with their families, peers, and communities throughout the country.

We offer a wide range of music making and training opportunities, online and in-person around the country, that enhance wellbeing, communication, community, self-expression, and enjoyment.

We focus on what individuals can do and follow their lead. Last year, we ran 962 music making sessions alongside 1,576 Learning Disabled people.

Our Soundabout Choirs are musical communities without barriers for people all ages and all abilities, with a focus on giving a voice to Learning Disabled people with complex support needs.
