As part of the Mencap Visiting Service we are looking for a volunteer to visit a older gentleman who has learning disabilities.

Are you relaxed, calm and patient?

 

Would you like to make a difference to someone with learning disabilities?

 

Could you be a befriending volunteer? 

 

Come and join us and be a visitor!

 

As part of the Mencap Visiting Service we are looking for a volunteer to visit a older gentleman who has learning disabilities. 


He is a quiet gentleman who enjoys to spend time relaxing at home, going out and about to local cafe's and shopping. He loves cars, coaches and cake! He enjoys going out and about with support, in particular local cafés.


He is looking for a visitor who is very relaxed, calm and patient who can chat with him about cars and family. You will be introduced and get to know him with our support. Initial you will visit him at home and then when you get to know each other you will go for a stroll or visit a local café together. 


By visiting every other month, you will both make a huge difference.


When & where do I need to be available?

  • Visits will be every 2 months and can be during the week or weekends.
  • Visits will last around 1 - 1.5 hours.  
  • Visits will take place at his home initially then out in the community after a few visits.

Before applying please check your journey to make sure it's practical for you.


As a Mencap Visiting Volunteer you will be:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Friendly, patient and reliable

About this service

We offer a lifelong befriending service for people with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of individual people with a learning disability.

 

Our visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing.

 

In many cases, our visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.
