About Read for Good

We are the national reading for pleasure charity responsible for unleashing the life-changing power of books and stories in children.

We believe that reading is nothing short of life-changing – a child who chooses to read for pleasure is more likely to do well in school, have a better job and better health and wellbeing. Since 1984, we’ve been encouraging a love reading in children through our tailor made programmes in schools, hospitals and communities. Countless studies show that a love of reading at an early age changes lives, from educational outcomes to social mobility and emotional wellbeing.

We also believe that all reading should be valued, and reading for pleasure should be unassessed. So, children should be free to choose what they want to read – from books to comics and song lyrics to audiobooks.
