This is a new role within the Cheltenham and Gloucester Read Easy group giving an overview of our activities and the chence to support in a variety of areas

Senior Administrator/Trainer role

This is a new role and it is flexible around your availability. It has the following responsibilities:

·       To help ensure that the Co-ordinators, who support our reading coaches and readers, have the training, information and support they need to perform their roles.

·       To be the main point of contact between the Coordinators and the Management team.

·       To support the smooth running of our Management Team by arranging our meetings, recording and monitoring decisions and actions agreed at meetings and providing ongoing administration support.

·       To arrange training for our volunteer reading coaches.

How we will support you

You will be provided with:

·       Training and induction to ensure that you know what is expected of both your role and the roles of the volunteers you will support;

·       Management Team Handbook, written policies and guidance specifically needed for this role;

·       Advice and support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser, via your Team Leader;

·       Opportunity to network with other Read Easy volunteers and groups around the UK through Read Easy UK’s regional and national forums.  

What you will be doing

·       Administering induction training for new Co-ordinators;

·       Liaising with our Co-ordinator team and Literacy Specialist to arrange regular meetings, and recording and monitoring actions agreed at the meetings;

·       Helping to arrange quarterly Reading Coach meetings;  

·       Providing admin support to Co-ordinators for collating information on reader numbers, progress and needs;

·       Receiving and collating Coordinators’ written reports to the Management Team;

·       Attending monthly Management Team meetings to represent Co-ordinators and update team on their progress and needs;

·       Assisting team members with data and admin tasks;

·       Supporting the Volunteer Recruiter with the recruitment of further Coordinators.

The skills you will need

·       An understanding of what motivates others and how to run meetings for a small team;

·       Strong communication and people skills, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality;

·       Experience in using commonly used software e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel;

·       The ability to use initiative and work independently;

·       A willingness to abide by Read Easy policies and procedures.

·       An open attitude that encourages two-way communication and willingness to ask for and offer support to the Team.

·       A non-judgemental attitude and respect for others, with a commitment to equality and diversity, so that you can make everyone feel valued and included.

·       Energy and enthusiasm with an average of 2-4 hours a week to commit to the role. It can fit around your availability and is mainly remote with most of the face-to-face interaction at predictable times like meetings.

About Read Easy Cheltenham & Gloucester

We teach adults to read. We provide a free, confidential one-to-one service for anyone over 18 in Cheltenham and Gloucester. All our coaches are volunteers trained to teach from manuals, books and other resources we provide. Our readers come to us from referral agencies or directly as a result of national or local publicity. We currently have 30 readers. We have 3 volunteer co-ordinators who match readers to coaches and oversee progress. We have no premises but use free facilities in local libraries and community centres. We also provide remote coaching by telephone or online to readers who prefer this.
