Summary

Do you want to be part of the Cotswolds largest free festival?? Volunteers wanted to join our team and make this a fantastic weekend for the whole community.

Detailed description

Created in 2013, The Phoenix festival is the brain-child of the local youth group who wanted to put something on in Cirencester that benefitted the whole community and was truly inclusive to all.

Since then, we have carried out this successful model and fundraised throughout the years to ensure we uphold these same values and embraced the youngster’s ethos, some of whom are still with us today inspiring the next generation of youths to get involved and learn more about working together in our community.

Hosting over 18,000 people last year, the festival is run over the August bank holiday weekend and has become an established event that ends the summer holidays as people can join up together with family and friends.

EXAMPLE JOB ROLES

Entry & Exit Points

The main task when manning these posts is to “Click” people in and out with the clicker counters to keep an up to date figure of crowd numbers. The SHOW OFFICE needs to be kept updated with figures every 100 people. We need to dissuade people from taking alcohol in and out of the Abbey grounds with a polite but firm request. DO NOT get into a confrontational situation let the security team do their job and contact the SHOW OFFICE for assistance if required. Alcohol drop points will be at the SHOW OFFICE.

Emergency Access

Emergency access vehicular route is primarily via Dugdale Road (Abbey Grounds Car Park) with a secondary route via Hereward Road. Please ask emergency services their preferred route which will depend on nature of the incident and the vehicle, offer to assist with clearing the path. All vehicles should be accompanied by a steward walking ahead (banksman) asking people politely but firmly to give way.

Emergency Exits

These are the same as the entry points. Make sure that you are familiar with them all so that you can redirect people to one of the alternative exit points should the exit point you are stewarding be unsafe to use.

Crowd control

Act as eyes/ears/presence and prevent any small problems escalating. Particularly be aware of any crowds gathering at entrance points and the front of stage area and performance areas. Alert the SHOW OFFICE of any potential situations and avoid any confrontational situations – contact the SHOW OFFICE if assistance is required.

Move through the event site with a watchful eye on all activities and advise the SHOW OFFICE immediately of any issues that may arise.

Vehicle Marshalling

Please ask vehicles not to move without a SECTION LEADER walking in front to clear a safe passage. Please be aware of people with sight or hearing difficulties, disabled people, young/old people etc. They may not see or hear the vehicle coming or need more time to get out of the way. Stewards should be polite at all times and be prepared to offer information. Avoid any confrontational situations and contact the SHOW OFFICE if assistance is required.

Stage Steward

Watch out for safety issues. Keep an eye on the crowd for any problems arising paying particular attention to crowd pressure on the front of stage barriers.

Donation Collecting

Donation Buckets will be less in evidence this year and we will be encouraging people to donate via the Wi-Fi, contactless donation stations. These may change location throughout the day so please keep an eye out for them although there will always be at least one at the entry/exit point. If someone gives you cash to donate, then please take it to the show office and we will put it in a secure bucket.
