Summary

Our volunteers are matched with a family that they visit once a week. Their role is to provide non-judgemental, confidential support when families need it most.

Detailed description

We are looking for new volunteers to join us, starting in January 2026!

At the heart of Home-Start Cotswolds is the belief that parents play the key role in giving their children the best start in life - and that other parents have the experience and understanding to support those families who need help. If you have parenting experience, you'll know just how tough family life can be at times and we are looking for people who have the time and commitment to support a family through a difficult period in their lives.

Our volunteers really do make a difference, one Mum who recently received our home-visiting support said -

"My volunteer has helped me get my life back together - I feel I can do anything now and I am finally parenting rather than just surviving"

If you are interested in volunteering with us, our next FREE training course starts in January 2026. Our volunteer preparation course will run in Cirencester on Thursday mornings from 22nd January 2026 to 19th March 2026. The Thursday morning sessions will run from 9.30am - 1pm for 8 weeks (not including half term).

We are looking for volunteers to join us who have:

  • Parenting experience
  • The desire and compassion to support local families with children aged under 5
  • 2-3 hours per week to visit a family
  • The ability to support a family based in the Cotswolds district area on a weekly basis (we have families in various locations such as Tetbury, Fairford, Lechlade, Cirencester, Bourton-on-the-Water, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow, Chipping Campden etc)

If you'd like to find out more, we are holding an 'Information Morning' on Thursday 20th November, 10.30am - 12pm at Cirencester Baptist Church, Chesterton Lane, Cirencester GL7 1YE. You can meet staff, learn all about our home visiting volunteering role and training, and talk to a current volunteer who has recently trained with us.

If you can't make it to our Information Morning (or you are reading this once it's passed) please feel free to get in touch to talk through the role and find out more.

You'll also find more information on our website, including a full role description and our volunteer application form.

Please note: Home-Start Cotswolds office is based in Cirencester but for these volunteering roles we are looking for new volunteers to support families across the Cotswold area. We would therefore expect applicants to be based in the Cotswolds area themselves.

About Home-Start Cotswolds

We are a local charity providing support, friendship and practical help for families with young children in the Cotswold District Council area to steer them through the stresses and strains of life.

Our trained volunteers are parents so they understand how hard it can be to bring up young children. They visit families every week, working alongside parents in their own homes, to help them through the problems they are facing. We also run groups in various locations across the region.

Home-Start volunteers visit families at home each week, supporting parents in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness or disability; some are just finding parenting a real struggle.

All our volunteers have parenting experience. They provide non-judgemental, practical and emotional support and help build the family’s confidence and ability to cope.

Home-Start runs more services, and has more volunteers supporting more families, than any other family support charity in the UK. All local Home-Start schemes, including Home-Start Cotswolds, work under the umbrella of Home-Start UK.
