Summary
We are looking for a new Chair to lead the charity through the next stage of our journey.Detailed description
We are committed to empowering people to make positive changes in their lives and believe that counselling is how this can happen. We are looking for a new Chair to lead the charity through the next stage of our journey.
We have a longstanding legacy, being founded as a charity in 1984 and are Gloucestershire’s largest counselling charity that offers counselling services to adults & children. We have significantly grown as an Organisation over the last five years and have played a key role in the COVID response to the mental health crisis and continue to see demand for our services rise. We are committed to ensuring that we reach further into the communities of Gloucestershire and continue to provide the access to counselling services that we are extremely proud of.
As our Chair, you will help us shape the way we work and deliver on our vision. We want to harness your experience and insight as we drive forward on our mission. Together we can champion and action our belief that counselling plays a powerful role in enabling change.
We welcome all candidates with these attributes and with some experience of working in mental health services or related areas or a genuine interest in this sector.
About Gloucestershire Counselling Service
GCS first started in 1978 and became registered as a charity in 1984 with the aim to provide high quality, affordable counselling to the communities of Gloucestershire. At this time there was little provision of this nature outside of London, the small group of therapy professionals grew the service and later launched the training of counsellors so as to ensure an ongoing supply of professionally trained counsellors to the county.
GCS was founded to provide access to affordable counselling and training for all members of society within the county, regardless of background or circumstances. We recognise that discrimination operates consciously and unconsciously in our society, which means some people have greater access to opportunities than others.
Our core belief is that all people are treated with dignity and respect and we are creating an organisation where inequalities are challenged and we anticipate and respond positively to different needs and circumstances.
Here at GCS our mission is to improve the quality of life for the communities of Gloucestershire through Counselling and Counselling Skills Training. Our long term goal is to maintain our reputation for delivering a high quality and effective service, meeting local needs and to be the first choice for Counselling and Training Services in Gloucestershire and its surrounding areas.
