Summary

A number of vacancies have arisen for volunteers who really want to make a difference and assist the Constabulary in promoting the Safer Cyber message.

Detailed description

Volunteer Cyber Safety Champions will support and enhance the Constabulary’s effort to deliver the Safer Cyber message to community groups, businesses, schools and at events around the county.

Cyber is an area that continues to grow as organised crime groups both within and outside of the UK move towards cyber-crime as a viable, and financially lucrative, activity. With new technology comes the potential for the criminal fraternity to attempt new criminal endeavours and there is a constant battle being fought by law enforcement agencies to protect our communities and reduce the risk of them becoming victims of crime.

This role is flexible for the volunteer, and will be built around their availability. There will be scope to deliver some presentations in the evening; however, any training that the volunteer needs to be given will most likely have to be administered in the daytime on a weekday.

Tasks

  • the delivery of national “Cyber Protect” messaging to community groups, i.e. Businesses, Schools and Partner Agencies
  • identify other areas within the community that would benefit from the input

Skills Required

  • confident public speaking skills
  • good communication skills (verbally and in writing)
  • awareness and an interest in tackling Cyber Crime

Training

Familiarisation of Constabulary procedures and training for use of any specific systems within the organisation will be given.

About Gloucestershire Constabulary

Gloucestershire Constabulary is one of the oldest rural police forces in Britain. The area we cover is around 1,000 square miles and is home to the Cotswolds, the Royal Forest of Dean and the Severn Vale, but also includes the urban centres of Cheltenham and Gloucester.

We serve a population of around 600,000 people in a county which incorporates the royal households of Highgrove and Gatcombe Park, airports at Staverton and Kemble, two universities, part of the M5 motorway and a number of large employers including GCHQ. It also hosts several major events.

Day-to-day policing of the county is delivered through six areas: Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Stroud, Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean.

Neighbourhood policing is very much at the heart of the Constabulary and within the six areas, we have teams covering 55 communities.

At the most local level, our neighbourhood policing teams have built strong relationships with the communities within which they work. Made up of Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), Special Constables, Police Support Volunteers, Volunteer Police Cadets and Police Staff, they tackle crime and disorder and other issues which matter most to the public.

Community policing is only part of what we do. The Constabulary showcase the work we do at our annual Open Day. Highlights include our dogs and mounted sections, roads policing team, forensics unit, specialist firearms officers, demonstrations and an opportunity to speak with Constabulary staff about paid and volunteer recruitment opportunities.

Gloucestershire Constabulary also works with other organisations (partners) such as local councils, support groups and charities, sharing expertise and making the best use of resources to help beat crime, make the county a safer place within which to live, visit and work and keep the people of Gloucestershire safe from harm.
