Detailed description

Are you skilled in sewing and passionate about helping others? Do you enjoy teaching and empowering individuals to learn new skills? If so, we have an exciting volunteer opportunity for you!


Position: Basic Sewing Group Volunteer


Organisation: Gloucestershire Carers Hub


Responsibilities:

- Organise and facilitate a basic sewing group for unpaid Carers in the community

- Teach basic sewing techniques such as patching, mending zips, and upcycling clothing items

- Provide guidance and support to participants as they practice and learn new sewing skills

- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants

- Collaborate with the Gloucestershire Carers Hub team to plan and coordinate sewing group sessions

- Ensure a safe and organised sewing space Carers will bring all necessary materials and equipment


Requirements:

- Proficient sewing skills, including patching, mending zips, and upcycling clothing items, most of the Carers who join this group will have never sewn before

- Patience and ability to teach individuals with varying levels of sewing experience

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to work with a diverse group of participants, including unpaid Carers

- Reliable and committed to fulfilling volunteer duties

- Understanding and empathy towards the challenges faced by unpaid Carers, the Carers Hub will give you training.

Time Commitment:

- Sewing group sessions will be held monthly

- Each session will last approximately 2 hours

- Additional time may be required for preparation and setup
