Detailed description

We have volunteer opportunities throughout Gloucestershire at different times and locations so can easily find a unit to suit you

Role description

Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK. Join one of our unit volunteer teams in Girlguiding Gloucestershire and be part of something amazing.

Girlguiding is all about developing self-confidence, building friendships, learning new things and having fun. By running a varied programme of activities and sharing your skills, you’ll support girls to try new things, build friendships, make a difference to the world, speak out about the issues that matter to them and have fun!

You’ll volunteer alongside a friendly and committed team to:

  • support girls to plan activities
  • run weekly meetings with girls aged 4-7 (Rainbows), 7-10 (Brownies), 10-14 (Guides) or 14-18 (Rangers)
  • plan and coordinate trips and events
  • carry out a range of basic administrative tasks

Who are we looking for?

If you're enthusiastic about giving girls opportunities for fun, friendship, challenge and adventure then you'll make a perfect unit volunteer helper.

You'll provide valuable support to the unit volunteer leadership team and you'll be key in providing the extra help needed to make unit meetings and events happen. Plus, you'll get to know the girls and other volunteers, and be part of the Girlguiding community.

The most important things our volunteers need are energy, enthusiasm and a willingness to try new activities!

We are looking for someone who could give a few hours a week to help at one of our units – the role is flexible and we can work you with you to find something suitable that works for you as well.

No formal qualifications or prior guiding experience are required to volunteer with us. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and abilities and have opportunities for both women and men.

How will you benefit?

We will:

  • Welcome you as part of our unit's leadership team
  • Listen to your ideas on things that we do
  • Provide you the opportunity to take part in fun and exciting activities
  • Give you the chance to make a real difference to the lives of girls in your local community
  • Offer support and training relevant to your role and interests
  • Always offer assistance when needed
  • Always try to ensure that you are comfortable in the tasks and role you undertake

We also have great free opportunities - as a volunteer you can choose to undertake our leadership training and complete our leadership qualification. There are also opportunities for training on:

  • First aid training
  • Safeguarding training
  • Activity based training such as climbing, walking, canoeing
  • Yearly role based training

When you decide to join our leadership team we will require:

  • Two references
  • DBS check (which will be provided for you at our cost)
  • Safespace training (Provided for your free of charge via our online portal)

Please note you will also need to sign up through the Girlguiding website to continue your volunteer application process.

This is a voluntary position and you will be paid with laughter, fun, new experiences and the privilege of seeing young people grow in confidence and skill.
