Volunteer Visitor Assistant
Dr Jenner’s House, Museum and Garden is situated in a splendid Grade II* Georgian house and beautiful garden, nestled in the historic market town of Berkeley, Gloucestershire. The former home of renowned doctor Edward Jenner, the museum tells the story of the life of this remarkable man and his pioneering work in the development of immunology and the beginnings of the science of vaccination.
We have a small but dedicated volunteer team who take on a wide range of roles from admin to front of house to gardening to education. The passion and dedication of our volunteer team was recognised when they were named South West winners of the Marsh Award for Volunteers in Museum Learning. Volunteering helps you learn new skills, refresh old skills, gain valuable experience and is a great social experience. We’re always looking for new faces to join our friendly team. Roles and hours are flexible, and can be adapted to your needs.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Front of House team to assist in the day-to-day running of the museum and provide our visitors with an excellent visitor experience. The role includes providing a warm welcome for all visitors, answering queries, helping visitors to interpret the museum’s displays and to ensure they have a comfortable, interesting and enjoyable visit. You will also help in the museum shop and reception, selling tickets and shop items. There is scope for Volunteer Visitor Assistants to conduct short talks or tours of the museum, and to help with school and group visits.
The museum is open to the public from April-September, Sundays and during February half-term, Easter Bank Holiday weekend and October half-term. It is open for school and group visits all year round.
Normal shifts are from 10:45-16:00 but we are willing to discuss flexibility in these arrangements.
