Summary
Do you have a few hours per month to spend time with a local adult with learning disabilities? We're looking for volunteers in the Nailsworth area.
Detailed description
Our Social Buddies programme brings together adults with learning disabilities and local volunteers who share interests/hobbies and have similar personalities. Our Social Buddy pairs then go out in the community to do the things they enjoy – together.
Our current Social Buddies enjoy shopping trips, the cinema, going for lunch and going for walks. We encourage our social buddies to share their passions and interests with each other – just as friends would!
We’re looking for volunteers with a gentle nature to spend time with a local adult with learning disabilities. Just a few hours a month will enable your Buddy to feel more connected, sharing simple moments like going for a coffee and cake. In return, we offer:
- Training to enable you to work with adults with learning disabilities.
- Ongoing support (where required) from the Building Circles team.
- Opportunities to participate in a range of volunteer social activities.
- Reimbursement of expenses such as travel costs.
No prior experience is required. Being a driver would be an advantage for this role but we do have other Social Buddy opportunities if you use public transport.

About Building Circles
Building Circles supports adults with learning disabilities in Gloucestershire to form and maintain meaningful friendships. Our Social Buddies, Gig Buddies and Football Buddies programmes connect adults with learning disabilities to local volunteers. Our Buddies then go out into the community to do things they enjoy - together. Our volunteers also support our other groups, such as our Allotment Groups and Art Group. We aim to enable adults with learning disabilities to live a more meaningful life, and volunteers are at the heart of what we do. In exchange for your volunteering time, we offer training and ongoing support, as well as reimbursement of expenses and opportunities to join our team at a range of social events.
