Detailed description

Set up an Action Squad to support Action for Children's Kingfishers Supported Housing, Ebley!

Action Squads are groups of amazing people bringing their friends and family together to hold events and raise money to help change the lives of children and families across the UK.

We’re looking for people to set up an Action Squad in Gloucestershire, especially around the Stroud and Gloucester areas, and hold fundraising events to support Kingfishers Ebley Supported Housing.

Do you love to plan and organise events? Maybe you’re the go-to in your friend group to get everyone together. Or maybe you’re overflowing with fantastic fundraising ideas [or itching to try your hand at hosting a big event]. If so, then setting up an Action Squad might be just right for you!

As part of an Action Squads, you could

• Plan and organise your own fundraising events, with the support of Action for Children’s professional Fundraising Managers.

• Get involved in big Action for Children events like our Christmas fundraiser, Secret Santa.

• Volunteer at national events such as Cardiff Half Marathon, Bath Half and London Marathon.

• Give talks about our work and support our campaigns.

Whether you organise one big fundraiser a year like a glitzy ball or gala dinner, or several smaller events such as raffles, quiz nights, and bake sales, there are so many ways to raise money for us.

We’re sure that you’ve got lots of fantastic ideas, and we’re here to support you, whatever you need.

If this sounds up your street and you live/work in the local area, we’d love to talk to you! Find out more by getting in touch with us…

Kingfishers Ebley

Our Children's Service Kingfishers is a supported housing project for 18 to 25 year olds with learning disabilities, based in Ebley, Stroud.

We're here to help young people with learning disabilities transition safely into adulthood and get on with their lives. Our dedicated team treats each young person as an individual.

We help them gain skills they need - both in work and socially - to live confident, independent lives or with others in local communities.

Our approach is unique. And it works:

95% of young people move into a more independent setting. Including unsupported and minimal support tenancies.

93% of young people gain work experience

25% are in paid employment

97% of young people engage in regular social or leisure activities

How we work

We work intensively with each young person, putting them at the heart of everything we do, to help them reach their full potential. Our experienced team works alongside the young person to develop the skills they need to lead an independent, fulfilling life.

Travelling to work, shopping, cooking, doing laundry, visiting friends or accessing local social groups. Our role is to help them participate safely with their choice of activity and enable them to take responsibility for their actions.

At Kingfishers we encourage young people to dream big. We are here to support them to live their lives as they choose. Young people live in our supported housing unit for up to two years. They have an en-suite bathroom and a shared kitchen and lounge. Currently it costs around £1,000 to clean, refurbish and redecorate each room once a young person leaves to ensure it is ready for our newcomers. We also provide floating support for a short time after they move on to ensure they maintain their independence.
