Lead group nature walks and support mental wellbeing in your community. Help others build confidence and combat isolation.
Do you want to help others build confidence, make connections, and improve wellbeing?
Would you be comfortable leading a group of up to 8-12?
This role is ideal for people who enjoy being outdoors and want to grow into a leadership role while making a real difference in their community.
Green Walks is a walking group for everyone, but is particularly aimed at those who struggle with their mental health or social isolation. Established in 2024, most walks are now fully booked and we are looking to expand.
Activities include:
- Leading local wellbeing walks in local green spaces, assisted by other volunteers
- Welcoming participants and creating a friendly atmosphere
- Supporting group safety and wellbeing during walks
Walks currently go on Saturdays 10:30-12:30, and Wednesdays 10:30-12:30.
Volunteer Walk Leaders follow a supported progression pathway. You may begin by shadowing experienced leaders, gradually taking on more responsibility at your own pace.

How volunteers make a difference
As a Volunteer Walk Leader, you will directly support people who may be experiencing isolation, low confidence, or mental health challenges to safely access nature and community.
Your involvement helps create meaningful experiences that have been shown to:
- Reduce loneliness and improve wellbeing
- Build confidence and resilience in participants
- Encourage people to explore nature in a safe and supportive way
Just some of the feedback from our first years includes:
“Having a walk like this to go on gets me out and about. I wouldn’t feel safe doing a walk like this on my own so the opportunity is great. Thank you!”
“I always feel welcomed. I have made new friends. Yesterday, I managed to go on a two hour walk after two years. I can’t say thank you enough.”
One person told us that they have recently gained the courage to leave an abusive marriage through confidence gained in our group.
Another disclosed that they joined the group shortly after beginning a rehab journey and have remained sober because of the connections made through the group. “Connection is the opposite of addiction,” they told us.
Another member told us that they moved to the area a long time ago and never quite made friends, but through our group now feels embedded in their community.
Other benefits include:
- Free branded fleece, t-shirt and raincoat
- Free navigation training
- Free DBS check
- Free first aid training
- Mentoring and support along your journey
- Gain experience in group management and outdoor leadership
- Build confidence and communication skills
- Spend regular time outdoors in beautiful local green spaces
