We're looking for a Chair to lead the running of our community childcare setting.

Purpose

To provide leadership and direction to the playgroup, ensuring it runs smoothly, stays true to its aims, and is well governed on behalf of the families and community it serves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Chair committee meetings and the AGM — setting agendas, keeping discussion on track, ensuring decisions are recorded
  • Act as the playgroup's main point of contact for staff, parents, and external bodies (e.g. Ofsted, local authority, landlord)
  • Provide line management support to the Playgroup Leader/Manager, including any staffing or HR issues
  • Ensure the committee meets its legal and regulatory responsibilities (safeguarding, insurance, health & safety, EYFS requirements, charity/CIC obligations if applicable)
  • Work with the Treasurer to oversee the playgroup's finances and sustainability
  • Lead recruitment of new committee members and support succession planning
  • Act as a signatory for policies, contracts, and key decisions
  • Represent the playgroup externally — e.g. with funders, the local authority, or community partners
  • Ensure policies are reviewed and kept up to date

This role provides fantastic experience in business management so is a great fit for those looking to develop their CV in this area. It would also be a great fit for individuals with experience in this area looking to make a real impact in the community.
