Fortnightly joint lead required for our Stroke Support group in Cirencester (alternate Thursdays at 10.30). Supported by a team of other volunteers.
ReConnect Gloucestershire supports people affected by Stroke and Aphasia, to connect with each other via our stroke support groups. Being part of our groups, helps reduce social isolation and build the confidence and self-esteem following a stroke. These groups offer a lifeline at a time of trauma and give hope for the future.
As a Group Lead you will:
- run a peer support group for people affected by stroke and/or aphasia supported by a staff member
- offer empathy, encouragement and a chance to share experiences.
- meet, greet and help everyone feel comfortable in the group.
- support positive group dynamics.
- encourage people to achieve personal goals within the group.
- support people to become more independent.
- be supported by a team of othe volunteers who help ensure things run smoothly.
This role might be perfect for you, if you are:
- able to enable and empower people to help themselves.
- empathetic and non-judgemental.
- willing to try new things and adapt to the needs of the people you are supporting.
- happy to be autonomous with guidance from a key staff member.
- over 18 years old
- reliable, clean and presentable

Location & time commitment:
- most volunteers commit to 2 to 3 hours per fortnight for at least six months to provide consistency for the group they support.

Application Process:
- To apply, please reply and express your interest providing a contact number
- A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an enhanced level is required for this role. ReConnect will process this with you for free.
- Once we have received your application, references and DBS check we will arrange a time for your training and match you with a person.

ReConnect Glos, has a particular focus on the recovery journey of people following a stroke and runs a stroke befriending service plus 12 stroke and general interest groups across Gloucestershire. This regular social interaction and connection with someone who understands, can help to build confidence, self-esteem and structure amongst many other positive outcomes. While you do not need to have had a stroke yourself, a commitment to this area is important.
