ABOUT US

Jet Age Museum engages with people in Gloucestershire and beyond to foster and inspire interest in aviation history, especially that of the County, from the earliest days of flight, through the birth of the Jet Age to the modern aerospace industry of today.

We are a family friendly community museum run exclusively by volunteers, registered as a charity and a company known formally as the Gloucestershire Aviation Collection. We do not charge for admission but seek donations to meet our running costs and raise funds for future improvements.

We are committed to an environment where volunteers feel fulfilled and valued for their contribution, equality and equity are upheld, diversity embraced, inclusion celebrated and discrimination, harassment and bullying not tolerated.

Please consider joining us to help preserve the rich aviation heritage of Gloucestershire and inspire the future of aviation in the County.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES DOCUMENT

TRUSTEE – VOLUNTEER SUPPORT

ROLE:

The role of the Trustee – Volunteer Support is to oversee the volunteer ‘workforce’ affairs of the Gloucestershire Aviation Collection Charity and its public facing activities at Jet Age Museum.

It involves working closely with fellow trustees as a board member, the Volunteer Support team, Executive Committee and other departments to deliver the number and mix of volunteers needed to fill vacancies in management and operational roles and to support our volunteers and those considering joining us.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Acting as the link between the Trustee Board and the Volunteer Co-ordination team and reporting on the performance and progress of volunteer support activities to the Board regularly.

Working with the Volunteer Co-ordination team to co-ordinate activities, understand issues arising, ensure plans and procedures are consistent with policy and that the team is appropriately resourced.

Leading on forward planning and budgeting matters affecting the team and proposing changes to the Board as appropriate.

Maintaining appropriate policies regarding volunteering at the Museum that comply with legal requirements covering recruiting, training, retention, succession planning and discipline in our all-volunteer environment.

Taking the lead on all aspects for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Safeguarding (child and vulnerable adult protection) as they affect the Museum.

Leading on the Museum’s organisation structure as reflected in the Directory, the high-level Organisation chart, the volunteer vacancies register and associated Role & Responsibility documents, keeping all up to date.

Ensuring that all volunteer risks are flagged in the Risk Register and proposing appropriate mitigations.

Co-ordinating action to resolve difficulties being experienced by our volunteers including ‘disciplinary’ matters to be handled in accordance with the direction in the Charity’s Articles of Association and associated policy.

Monitoring the use of the Better Impact volunteer management and rostering system and assisting the team in getting the best out of the resource.

Ensuring volunteers’ personal information is protected in accordance with privacy rules.

SKILLS/INTERESTS NEEDED:

Managing in a multi-disciplinary team setting and an interest in working with volunteers to help the Museum thrive.  Experience in HR and the charitable sector would be an advantage but is not essential. An interest in aviation and heritage is desirable but not essential.

TRAINING OFFERED:

Internal Board member training is provided as well as a formal Museum induction course as a new volunteer. Various volunteer management courses are available through our link with Museum Development South West and through the Better Impact and Rosterfy organisations.

TIME COMMITMENT SUGGESTED:
